At the time of her funeral, the cause of her death was unknown, despite the fact that the police did not view it as suspicious. According to the post-mortem report, Melanie’s death was also caused by hypertensive heart disease, obesity, and bronchopneumonia.

In a small gathering with a select group of loved ones and friends, including Shirlie and Martin Kemp, Melanie Panayiotou was laid to rest in Highgate Cemetery next to her brother George Michael and mother Leslie in an unmarked grave.
