Judith A. Moose, Irene’s publicist, confirmed the death to Eyewitness News. “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Irene Cara on behalf of her family,” Moose wrote.

According to her rep, Cara’s cause of death is currently unknown, but the information will be released as soon as it becomes available. She added that funeral services are still being planned, and a memorial for Cara’s fans will be held later.
