The 73-year-old gave a recent update on his condition, revealing that he “might not be here in a few months.”

“I’d just like to tell everyone that I am still here and still going,” James wrote. He acknowledged his health problems but said, “there’s no need for anyone to be writing my obituary just yet!”

“I first had a diagnosis over 25 years ago. Admittedly it will probably get me sooner rather than later,” James shared.

People often ask about his prognosis, which he finds challenging to say because everyone, sadly, can go at any time, and “British are not very good at talking about death.”

James is unsure about how long he has left, saying he “may or may not be here in a few months’ time.”

He believes the best thing to do is to get on and live. He also thanked all the well-wishers.

Daily Mail reports that James was previously given three months to live when he first contracted kidney cancer in 2000, 20 years before his second diagnosis.

James Whale Announced His Terminal Cancer

James Whale was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February 2000. He started experiencing symptoms after he noticed blood in his urine, which was caused by a large tumor on his left kidney.

The radio personality underwent an operation that gave him a 50% chance of survival. He decided not to have chemotherapy afterward.

In 2006, James launched the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer to support research and raise awareness of the disease. The fund later became Kidney Cancer UK in 2016.

He gave a further update in August 2020, stating that his cancer had spread to his spine, lungs, and brain.

Besides, James also has dyslexia, about which he is outspoken. He is also a patron of the National Literacy Association.

James Whale Family Background Explored

Michael James Whale was born in Ewell, Surrey, England, into “an ordinary middle-class family.” He is the son of a Welsh mother, Anne (née Price), and an English father, David.

Anne was a professional ballet dancer, whereas David worked in the Brixton, London-based family business S&R Whale, which made aprons, dresses, and overalls in a factory.

The famous media personality did not enjoy his school life. He failed his eleven-plus exam.

James later attended Longmead County Secondary Boys School and Linton’s Lane Secondary Modern School in Epsom. From 14 to 16, he took up archery and became a Surrey junior champion.

He wanted to become an actor in his earlier days, but his mum advised him to “get a proper job.” He had several odd jobs, including a trainee buyer for Harrods, a DJ, and an acting rep.

In 1970, James married Melinda Maxted, and the couple had two sons, James and Peter.
