Curtis Gainwell and Monica Gainwell are the parents of Kenneth Gainwell, the Philadelphia Eagles’ running back.
Kenneth grew up with his two brothers at his parents’ trailer home in the countryside in Yazoo County, Mississippi.
While speaking to Josh Tolentino of the Philadelphia Enquirer, Curtis Gainwell Sr. said it is hard to find the family trailer on GPS.
Kenneth’s father, Curtis Sr., was born in August 1970, whereas his mother, Monica Renee Gainwell (nee. Gibson), was born in May 1972.
The Gainwell family was struck by tragedy during the Covid-19 pandemic, as Curtis Sr. told Commercial Appeal that four family members died of the virus.
This led to Kenneth opting out of the 2020 college season in August 2020, just days before the Tigers’ season opener.
Kenneth’s uncle, who was regularly at college games, also died of Covid-19.
Curtis Sr. said that his son took the loss hard and decided not to play during the pandemic for the safety of his friends and family.
