A two-part documentary series, What Happened, Brittany Murphy? HBO Max released it on October 14, revealing full details of Murphy’s death.
The documentary shows that Murphy rose to fame during a hard time in Hollywood. The 1990s & 2000s were a time of extreme misogynist media.
In the series, one of Murphy’s friends revealed her desire to change hair color and lose body weight after some Hollywood executives told her she was “not fuckable” enough to sign a lead role.
All the negative comments left Murphy with insecurities and vulnerability. She met Simon Monjack, a manipulative con artist according to the series, and was influenced by his charms.
