Jared Dickey was born on March 1, 2002, to Keith and Tammy Dickey.

His father, Keith, is a former baseball player who played at Lipscomb University and coached at Friendship Christian School, where Jared attended high school.

His mother, Tammy, is a nurse who supported Jared’s passion for baseball from an early age.

Jared grew up playing baseball with his older brother, Jordan, who also played at Lipscomb and was drafted by the New York Mets in 2012.

Jared credits his brother for being his role model, mentor, and biggest competitor. “He always pushed me to be better,” Jared said in an interview with Baseball America.

Jared was a star player at Friendship Christian School, where he hit .500 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs as a senior. He also pitched and played multiple positions on the field.

He was named the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Division II-A Mr. Baseball in 2020 and was ranked as the No. 1 player in the state by Perfect Game.

He remarked, “I believe it’s just something that has been handed down through the generations. “My father instilled in me the values of hard work and never giving up on my goals.”

“My mother has always urged me to enjoy myself and be self-assured. I have a deep appreciation for the game and its players thanks to them both.”

Jared Dickey: College & Minor Leagues Career

Jared Dickey committed to play college baseball at the University of Tennessee, where he joined the Volunteers in 2022.

As a rookie, he had an instant impact, hitting .380 in 40 games with seven home runs and 19 RBIs.

Dickey helped the Vols reach the College World Series for the first time since 2005, where he hit a memorable grand slam against Virginia.

As a sophomore in 2023, Jared improved his numbers to .328 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs in 63 games.

In addition to being selected as a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which is given to the nation’s top amateur player, he was named to the All-SEC First Team.

The baseball star also led the Vols to another College World Series appearance, where they finished as runners-up to Vanderbilt.

After an outstanding time in college, Jared was chosen by the Kansas City Royals with the 319th overall pick in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

He signed with the Royals for $572,500 and reported to their minor league system. He played for two teams in 2023: the Columbia Fireflies of the Class A Carolina League and the Royals of the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

He hit a combined .330 with five doubles, four triples, and 20 RBIs in 32 games.

The Royals plan to use Jared as a catcher, outfielder, and first baseman, giving him more versatility and value. Jared is excited to play for the Royals and learn from their coaches and players.
