eremy Hansen’s wife is Krista Hansen, a medical doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed her residency program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2001, and then pursued a master’s degree in public health at Johns Hopkins University.
After completing her coursework, she worked as a locum tenens throughout Ontario, covering other people’s OBGYN practices.
In 2002, Krista moved with her husband to Cold Lake, Alberta, where she opened her own OBGYN practice and became the only OBGYN in the area. She remained in Cold Lake for seven years before her husband’s astronaut training required them to move to Texas.
As an astronaut spouse, Krista has had to learn to adjust to a unique lifestyle, including frequent moves and long periods of separation from her husband. She has had to take on the majority of the childcare responsibilities while also managing her own demanding career as a medical doctor.
Despite the challenges, Krista is supportive of her husband’s dream of becoming an astronaut and has prepared herself and her family for the possibility of him being gone for long periods of time while on a space mission.
