However, Lightfoot is not a Catholic and raised several questions when she attended a Catholic ceremony.

She was criticized by the Catholic community a couple of years ago for receiving Catholic Holy Communion at policewoman Ella French’s funeral.

Those who are not Catholic are often not allowed to receive Holy Communion.

So, Lightfoot’s presence at the Catholic funeral raised several questions from the community. Many criticized her and branded her presence as a publicity stunt.

Lori Lightfoot was born to Ann and Elijah Lightfoot in Massillon, Ohio, on August 4, 1962.

Her mother was a nighttime healthcare aide and school board member; her father was a local factory worker and janitor.

Lori is the youngest of four children born to her parents and grew up in a primarily white neighborhood on the city’s west side.

Talking about Lori’s education, she graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, where she was elected the class president thrice.

During high school, Lori was a trumpet player and choir singer and played basketball, volleyball, and softball.

Lightfoot then enrolled at the University of Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

Lori was awarded a full scholarship at the University of Chicago, where she graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1989.

The Chicago mayor is the first openly lesbian black woman to serve as a mayor of a major US city.

She is married to Amy Eshleman, a former Chicago Public library employee. They tied the knot on May 21, 2014.
