Mohammed is the eighth and seventh son of his Father and the eldest of his mother’s six children. Prince Turki and Prince Khalid are his full siblings.
His mother, Fahda, is the granddaughter of Rakan bin Hithlain and the great-granddaughter of Dhaydan bin Hithlain. Both of them were heads of the Al Ajman tribe.
The Prime Minister holds a law degree from King Saud University. Before becoming a private aide for his Father, he worked in the private sector for several years.
Mohammed was appointed defense minister by Salman when he succeeded to the throne in January 2015. In April 2015, Mohammed was also named deputy crown prince.
After King Salman’s nephew, Crown Prince Muhammad bin Nayef, was removed from the position in 2017, he was elevated to the position. Mohammed succeeded Salman as prime minister in 2022.
