Tan France’s real name is Tanveer Wasim Safdar. He was born in South Yorkshire, England, to his parents. Both Tan’s mother and Father are from Pakistan. The Safdar family, including Tan, follows the Muslim religion.
Tan France’s parents relocated to England as children. The fashion designer grew up in Doncaster with three siblings – two elder brothers and a sister.
The Safdar family resided next door to Tan’s uncle from his dad’s side.
While his parents ran taxi services, post offices, and convenience stores at different points, his grandfather had a Bury factory producing denim.

The television personality resides with his partner/husband, Rob France, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The couple has been married since 2007. The lovebirds have been married twice.
They tied the knot first in London. After their marriage became legal, they held a second wedding ceremony in New York City.
Tan France’s husband is a pediatric nurse and illustrator. Tan and his husband have a son – Ismail France – via surrogacy. The baby boy was born premature (seven weeks early) on 10 July 2021. Ismail had to spend three weeks in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
Queer Eye Helped Tan France To Change His Relationship With His Family
Tan France grew up in a strict Muslim family where homosexuality was considered negatively. The British-American designer is one of the first openly gay South Asian men and one of the first out Muslim gay men in the western showbiz industry.
Talking with Van Ness on a podcast, the renowned fashion designer disclosed that his parents and siblings initially refused to watch Queer Eye. But after watching it, they found it better than they ever expected. “You made us so proud, and you are just who you are,” Tan’s family told him.
France explained that his family was worried that he would be someone else or different in his personal life. But their view changed after the Safdar family found that Tan was the same person they had known their entire lives.
