Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo is an Indonesian politician and former army lieutenant general.
Prabowo graduated from the Indonesian Military Academy in 1970 and served mostly in the Special Forces.
In 1998, he was removed from the military for alleged human rights violations and banned from entering the United States.
That same year, he had been appointed to lead the Strategic Reserve Command.

He was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, to his loving and wealthy parents, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo and Dora Maria Sigar.
Prabowo’s father, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo (1917–2001), was an economist who served as a minister under former President Suharto.
He named Prabowo after his younger brother, a war hero who died fighting the Japanese during Indonesia’s revolution.
Prabowo’s mother, Dora Maria Sigar (1921–2008), was a Protestant Christian of Minahasan descent from North Sulawesi. His parents married in the Netherlands.
Prabowo has two older sisters, Bianti and Maryani, and one younger brother named Hashim.
Bianti is married to a former central bank governor, while Maryani is married to a French businessman.
