Stuart Hogg Plans To Retire This Year

Hogg intends to conclude the season with Exeter before going to France for Scotland’s third World Cup.

Due to an ankle injury sustained in Scotland’s defeat to Ireland this month, he is out of action currently.

By posting about his choice on social media, he disclosed that he did not think his body would allow him to compete at the highest level for long.

He made his senior debut for Glasgow two years ago and his Scotland debut in 2012. He has been chosen for three British & Irish Lions tours and has played for his nation in two World Cups.

He made a lucrative transfer to Exeter in 2019 and was chosen Scotland captain the following year before Jamie Ritchie took up the position in October.

“After RWC (Rugby World Cup) 2023, my professional rugby career will end, and I will be retiring from the game,” wrote Stuart Hogg in his post.

Stuart said growing up in the Scottish Borders, all he wanted to do was play rugby for Scotland.

“I am privileged to have represented my country 100 times, played on three British and Irish Lions tours, and represented some incredible clubs. I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” added Hogg.

He ended his note by thanking people he was grateful to.
