Bryan Kohberger Jailed- A 28-Year-Old PhD Student Is Arrested Without Bail, Parents

After over six weeks of Idaho quadruple murder, a suspect, 28-year-old Bryan Christopher Kohberger, was arrested on December 30, 2022.

He was taken into custody from Monroe County, Pennsylvania, in the first-degree and felony burglary.

On November 13, 2022, four students of the University of Idaho were stabbed to death in their off-campus residence in Moscow, Idaho.

The suspect was being held without bail in Latah County Jail in Moscow. The pretrial hearing is today, January 12, 2023.

Bryan Kohberger Was Arrested From His Parent Home

The suspect was identified through DNA evidence discovered on a knife sheath left at the crime scene and DNA extracted from the trash in the Kohberger family home.

Investigators were searching for the owner of a white Hyundai Elantra who might have crucial information about the incident.

On December 15, authorities twice stopped the 28-year-old Ph.D. student while operating the vehicle across Indiana. His Father had flown into Washington & was making the 2,500-mile trip back to Pennsylvania with his kid for the holidays.

Bryan reportedly received a “verbal warning” but no citations, according to The Idaho Statesmen. According to reports, authorities planned those stops as they pursued their suspect.

After learning that he would face trial in Idaho for the murders of the victims, Kohberger did not object to his extradition.

After the quadruple homicide in Idaho, the WSU student obtained a Washington state license plate for a white Hyundai Elantra that had previously been registered in Pennsylvania.

According to authorities, the 28-year-old was apprehended in Pennsylvania on a warrant for a fugitive from justice on December 30. He was then extradited to Idaho, where he was formally charged.

Bryan Kohberger Background

Bryan Kohberger was born on November 21, 1994. He completed an associate’s degree in psychology from Northampton Community College and pursued a bachelor’s degree at DeSales University in 2020.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was a Ph.D. criminology student at WSU (Washinton State University).

In a statement released on December 31, the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology of Washington State University condemned “the alleged heinous conduct of one of its graduate students.” They expressed comfort that “justice will be carried out.”

Kohberger’s public lawyer spoke at the extradition court on his behalf and stated that his client is eager to be cleared.

Bryan Kohberger Parents: Meet His Sibling

In a statement, the suspect’s parents and two elder sisters claimed they were cooperating with investigations.

Bryan Kohberger’s Father, Michael Kohberger, 67, has been working as a maintenance order for the Peasant Valley School District for over a decade.

On the other hand, the suspect’s mother, Maryann Kohberger, 62, also used to work at the school system. Bryan’s high school friends described his parents as nice folks.

The suspect was harassed for his weight in high school, according to friends who spoke to CBS News, but he shed 100 pounds before entering his senior year.

According to two people who knew him back home, he worked for the Pleasant Valley School District as a security guard. He was alleged to have terrible social abilities.

His WSU classmate said that he seemed comfortable around people and characterized him as opinionated and intelligent.

In a statement released publicly by a lawyer who handled Kohberger’s extradition proceedings, the suspect’s family swore to “love and support our son and brother.”
