After attending Selena’s concert, Saldivar initiated a fan club, later becoming one of her close friends and business associates.
She later became the manager of Selena’s boutiques with control over her business checking accounts.
Those close to Selena noticed that Saldivar began exhibiting obsessive behavior and became difficult to collaborate with.
However, in early 1995, Selena’s father suspected Saldivar of embezzling money as employees reported overdue payments, resulting in her being fired.
On March 31, Selena met Saldivar at a motel to retrieve financial records.
During the meeting, Saldivar claimed that someone raped her the night before, but they didn’t find evidence for this.
Later, when Selena asked for the documentation at the motel, Saldivar shot her in the back, rupturing an artery.
At the time, even though Selena was brought to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital, she passed away from blood loss.
After that, investigations went on, and authorities convicted Saldivar of murder and sentenced her to life in prison with a 30-year parole period.
Saldivar is presently serving a life sentence at the Patrick O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas, under the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Therefore, per her sentence, she is eligible for parole on March 30, 2025.
