However, in 2011, the case took a turn when bones were discovered in a bushland area. It was soon confirmed that they belonged to Daniel Morcombe, and an investigation began into his death.

The remains showed evidence of a violent attack, with Cowan confessing to abducting and murdering the young boy.

What Happened During The Incident?

On December 7, 2003, 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe left his home to get a haircut and buy Christmas presents at a nearby shopping center. 

He walked about 1.3 kilometers to reach a bus stop on the Nambour Connection Road. He was last seen at a bus stop under the Kiel Mountain Road overpass in the Woombye District at around 2:10 pm. 

Unfortunately, the bus he was supposed to board broke down, causing him to miss the replacement bus. He waited for another bus, during which passersby and a bus driver reported seeing two adult men near him. 

However, when the bus arrived three minutes later, Daniel was nowhere to be found. His parents contacted the Police when he didn’t return home, and an extensive investigation was launched.

Where Is Daniel Morcombe Killer Brett Peter Cowan?

Daniel Morcombe’s killer Brett Peter Cowan is serving his sentence in the Wolston Correctional Centre in Queensland.

Cowan is a convicted murderer and pedophile currently serving a life sentence for the 2003 abduction and murder of 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe.

The heinous crime shocked the nation and was one of Australia’s most significant missing person cases. Cowan confessed to luring Daniel into his car, taking him to a secluded location, and murdering him.

In 2011, the Queensland Police Service launched a fresh investigation into the case, and they found evidence linking Cowan to the crime. Cowan was arrested, tried, and convicted of murder in 2014, receiving a life sentence with a non-parole period of 20 years.
