An American astronomer, writer, and science communicator by the name of Neil deGrasse Tyson. He was employed at Princeton University as a postdoctoral researcher.

In 1996, he was appointed director of the planetarium, overseeing a $210 million reconstruction project completed in 2000. He has been the director of the Hayden Planetarium at New York City’s Rose Center for Earth and Space since 1996.

In 1997, Tyson established the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History, where he has worked as a research associate ever since.

Stephen Tyson received his MFA from the City College of New York and his BFA from Manhattanville College. Later, Tyson was honored as a distinguished alumnus in the arts by Manhattanville.

Stephen received Fulbright-Hays Fellowships in 1988 and 1995 to pursue his studies in Nigeria, Namibia, and Botswana, respectively.

His fascination with pattern design was further sparked by these events, reflected in a series of paintings and drawings he has been doing since 1994.

The study of molecular biology, astronomy, illuminated manuscripts, Australian Aboriginal art, the murals of the Kassena in West Africa, digital photography, and music are a few additional fields from which he has drawn inspiration.

Unfortunately, the exact age gap between the two is not disclosed as Stephen has not revealed his date of birth to the public. However, we do know that Stephen Tyson is the elder brother of Neil Tyson.

Meet Neil Degrasse Tyson Family

Neil Tyson was born in Manhattan as the middle child of three children in a Bronx family.

His African-American father, Cyril deGrasse Tyson, was a sociologist, the first Director of Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited, and the commissioner for human resources for New York City mayor John Lin

His mother, Sunchita Maria Tyson, is of Puerto Rican heritage and worked as a gerontologist for the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Neil Degrasse Tyson and Lynn Antipas Tyson are Tyson’s siblings.

Neil is married to his wife, Alice Young, and has two children: Miranda and Travis. 

Tyson met his wife in a physics class at the University of Texas at Austin. They married in 1988 and named their first child Miranda, after the smallest of Uranus’ five major moons.

In an interview with Big Think, Neil Degrasse Tyson stated that he is an agnostic.

When asked if he believed in a higher power during a question and answered session at the University of Buffalo, Tyson responded, “Every account of a higher power that I’ve seen described, of all religions that I’ve seen, include many statements concerning the benevolence of that power.” 

When I look at the universe and all of the ways it wants to kill us, it’s difficult for me to reconcile that with statements of beneficence.

Tyson stated in the 2009 interview “Called by the Universe: A Conversation with Neil deGrasse Tyson”: “I can’t agree to the claims by atheists that I’m a member of that community.” I don’t have the time, energy, or desire to conduct myself in that manner… I’m not looking to convert anyone. “I don’t mind.”
