Pat Cullen, the current General Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal College of Nursing is the woman in charge of one of the largest healthcare workers’ strikes in the UK.
Pat, a native of Carrickmore, County Tyrone, has led the charge this winter in the fight for higher pay among nurses and other healthcare professionals. The largest nursing strike in the history of the NHS saw workers from across the UK join the picket line on Thursday.
Before the strike, Cullen recently appeared on national television as the RCN called for a 19% pay increase for its employees. In April 2021, she was chosen as the organization’s temporary General Secretary & Chief Executive. In July of that same year, she was given the position permanently.
