The adored GAA figure, who was critically hurt in a hit-and-run accident outside Inishannon in Cork on Thursday, December 29, has tragically passed away in the hospital where he had been admitted.

Paudie Palmer, a sports broadcaster from Cork, had a rich history in the GAA, a natural understanding of it, and the respect of everyone involved in Gaelic sports and the wider world of sports. Mr. Palmer, a native of Templenoe in County Kerry, spent 40 years teaching at St. Brogan’s Community School in Bandon, but he was best known for his work as a sports commentator.

Mr. Palmer, a well-known commentator on C103 for his vibrant and colorful coverage of both club and intercounty games in Cork, also penned a well-liked regular sports column in The Echo newspaper.

Paudie Palmer, a well-known sportscaster from Cork, was killed after suffering injuries in a hit-and-run accident more than a week ago. Tánaiste Micheál Martin oversaw tributes to Palmer.

The announcement that Mr. Palmer, a broadcaster with C103 County Sound, had passed away overnight at Cork University Hospital would be met with sadness throughout Cork, according to Mr. Martin.

According to Kieran McGeary, CEO of Cork’s 96FM and C103FM, Paudie was a great person with a gentlemanly demeanor. He continued by saying that it would be easier to imagine their commentary with the legendary Paudie Palmer’s voice.

Mr. Palmer was the uncle of Claudine Keane, the wife of Robbie Keane. She tweeted that she needed prayers for her uncle after he was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run accident on December 29.

After being seriously hurt in a head accident on December 29 at Dunkereen Cross, close to his home in Innishannon, he was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. Kieran McGeary, station director for Cork 96FM and C103, stated that the loss of Mr. Palmer would be felt not only by his fellow broadcasters but also by his devoted audience on C103.

His friends and family will miss him a lot because he had great insights into the game and a unique voice, especially on the radio and in his column for The Echo.

How Did The Accident Occur?

Around 10 am, a two-vehicle accident occurred at Dunkereen Cross, close to Upton, on the Innishannon-Crossbarry road in County Cork.

Bohdan Berverkhyi, a 33-year-old native of Ukraine, has since been charged with four traffic offenses in connection with the incident. He has made an appearance in court and been remanded in custody on four driving-related charges, including failing to provide Mr. Palmer with the necessary assistance after the collision.

Last Thursday, he was remanded in custody and will appear at Bandon District Court on January 19 next. His attorney informed the court that her client wanted to apologize for what had happened.
