He started Winnipeg-based Nygard International in 1967, producing sportswear before transitioning to women’s clothing.
The company produced clothing under brands such as Nygard Fashions, Nygard Slims, ADX, and more.
Moreover, Canadian Business Magazine ranked him the 70th richest Canadian in 2009, worth C$817 million.
However, a twist landed in Nygard’s life when he faced accusations of assaulting women, including minors and engaging in sex trafficking.

Even though Nygard had accusations of sex trafficking, rape, and racketeering following a Federal Bureau of Investigation raid in 2020, he is still at his best.
However, the case hit him hard as after the raid in his office, Nygard stepped down as the Chairman of his company.
He faced charges of sex trafficking and accusations of racketeering involving minors, leading to his later arrest.
Despite his request, authorities denied him bail, and on February 5, 2021, they scheduled his extradition to the US.
Furthermore, in October 2021, Peter Nygard faced new charges in Canada, including multiple counts of sexual assault and forcible confinement.
The incidents involved occurrences from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s.
Moreover, a Canadian court found Nygard guilty of four counts of sexual assault in November 2023.

Authorities charged the 82-year-old former fashion mogul, Peter Nygard, with crimes involving four women and a 16-year-old girl.

However, Nygard’s attorney, Greenspan, referred to the girl’s testimony as absurd and suggested they were gold diggers.

“To describe Peter Nygard as an evil predator, a Jekyll and Hyde personality who, through wealth and power, lured women to his den of iniquity and forced women to comply with his sexual demands… is neither fair nor accurate,”
To this, another prosecutor, Ana Serban, claimed that Peter Nygard was selective and evasive during his testimony and had inconsistent memory.
Additionally, she also detailed how he invited the victims into his office and sexually assaulted them.
Nevertheless, authorities convicted Peter Nygard, and he is currently serving time in prison as a result.
Moreover, the incident took a toll on the former prominent fashion executive’s net worth, which was estimated to be C$900 million in 2017.
