In 2004, Anna Sawai began acting when she was only 11.

She debuted in a Tokyo stage production of Annie as the titular character.

Further, she auditioned for Avex Inc. in 2006, which earned her a management contract and training at their boot camp.

Following the year, Anna played a minor role in the television drama Our Love Song.

In 2009, she made her Hollywood debut with James McTeigue’s film Ninja Assassin.

This movie was based on martial arts, and Anna played the role of Kiriko, a rebellious young ninja.

Besides, the actress continued to take dance and music lessons in high school and later attended Sophia University.

While in University, Anna moved to the Avex Trax record label.

Further, in March 2012, she performed the USA national anthem at the Tokyo Dome to start the 2012 Major League Baseball season.

A month later, she became one of the girl group Avex Rising Angels members.

In November, the group released its first music, Make My Dreams Come True.

However, the group Avex Rising Angels dissolved in 2013 after less than a year.

Finally, Anna was the female lead of the FX limited series Shogun in 2021.
